Mr. Mike Smith
I am extremely proud to be a West Aurora Blackhawk! As a student, I attended District 129 schools. I began my teaching career in 1999 as a 2nd grade teacher at Hall Elementary School. In 2004, I became the Assistant Principal at Hill Elementary School. From 2006-2016, I was the Principal at Freeman Elementary School. From there, I became the Principal of Hill Elementary School from 2016-2019.
I am currently going into my second year as the Principal of Jewel Middle School. Jaguars embrace challenge and #GetInvolved. I look forward to partnering with Jewel Middle School community. LEAD, SERVE, INSPIRE!
Mrs. aMY TOWNES
I am a lifelong resident of Aurora and a proud graduate of West Aurora High School. I started my career as a Special Education Teacher in 1991 and then joined West Aurora School District 129 in 1992. Throughout my years at West Aurora I have been a special education teacher and a 6th Grade teacher at Goodwin Elementary and Jewel Middle School. From 2008 -2011 I served as the Dean of Students at Jewel. In 2011 I became the Assistant Principal at Washington Middle School and in 2012 I came back to Jewel to be the Assistant Principal of Teaching & Learning.
Being a Jewel Jaguar is all about Getting Involved! Get involved in your academics by always doing your best. Get involved in a club or sport to make new friends, experience leadership, and stay busy. Get involved in service to your school community by doing something for others. In serving others you become a better version of yourself!
I am excited to continue to have the opportunity to work with the students, staff, and families of Jewel Middle School. It is a place that I am proud to call home. #LEAD#SERVE#INSPIRE!

I started my West Aurora School District career in 2005. I am currently the Assistant Principal of Operations at Jewel Middle School.
